Triple J has released the details of its Hottest 100 also-rans – in other words, the list of songs voted in from 101 to 200.
The Middle East’s Land of The Bloody Unknown was the unlucky track to just miss the 100 mark, while Gold Fields track Moves just snuck into the extended list at 200. Other artists to make the second hottest 100 include Loon Lake, Josh Pyke and Tyler, the Creator.
Chris Lilley also made the list – albeit in the guise of his Angry Boys creation S.mouse with his one-hit wonder Slap My Elbow, voted in at number 170.
MUSIC'S NEXT CHAPTER
The 2011 edition of the now-annual Australia’s Year in Music book will be released next month. The first edition of the book – published by Heath Media and the AU review – was published last year, and contained a comprehensive wrap-up of Australian music in 2010, including album releases, international tours and festivals.
The second instalment will feature everything from the rise of Boy & Bear and the remarkable success of Gotye and a retrospective of the summer festival season. Copies can be pre-ordered; visit australiasyearinmusic.com
WITH A BULLET
Anthony Gonzalez – the mastermind behind French electro-pop artist M83 – charmed a lot of people on his recent tour of Australia. But Raph Brous of local band Teenage Mothers, who supported M83 at its Prince Bandroom show, was left unimpressed.
Brous last week claimed Gonzalez kicked Teenage Mothers off the tour after the band’s singer, James Kennedy, inhaled nitrous oxide on stage during its first (of a scheduled two) Prince shows. In a post on the band’s Facebook page, Brous described the experience as ‘‘humiliating and unfair’’.
