There are concerns for tennis legend Novak Djokovic ahead of the Australian Open, with the Serbian superstar ruling himself out of a lead-up event in Adelaide.
Djokovic told his fans on Monday night that he won’t compete in the Adelaide International because he’s not “physically ready” for the tournament.
In a statement tinged with sadness, the 38-year-old said on Instagram: “To all my fans in Adelaide, unfortunately, I am not quite physically ready to compete in the Adelaide International next week.

“It’s personally very disappointing to me as I have such great memories of winning the title there two years ago.
“I was really excited about returning as it truly feels like playing at home.”
Djokovic said his focus was now firmly set on his “preparation” for the Australian Open.
“And I look forward to arriving in Melbourne soon and seeing all the tennis fans in Australia,” he said.
Djokovic has won in Adelaide in 2007 and 2023.
He has also won the Australian Open a record 10 times.
