7You editor reviews Emma Sleep’s new and improved Luxe Pro Mattress. So does it live up to the extensive hype?

As a millennial in my mid 30s, it’s safe to say that I — like everyone else my age — am taking my sleep seriously.

Between Oura Rings tracking my sleep score, magnesium 20 minutes before I hit the hay and no blue light in the bedroom, a lot of what I do is geared towards doing my best to ensure I get my eight hours.

Which is why it doesn’t necessarily make sense that I haven’t given my mattress a second thought.

Until recently, I had a mattress I acquired from my sister in law about nine years ago, when my now-husband and I moved into a two-bedroom apartment she had just bought.

That same mattress moved in with us in to our own apartment two years later, and then into our house when we bought earlier this year.

But at nearly nine years old, I hadn’t stopped to think: Is this mattress actually serving me? Could another one do the job better?

Offered the chance to review the new and improved Luxe Pro Mattress by Emma Sleep, I jumped at the opportunity.

After all, they say you should replace your mattress every seven to 10 years — and I was right in that time frame.

Here’s how I got on.

The specs, delivery and setup

Opting for the King-Sized Luxe Pro Mattress (usually $3,099; currently $1,229 in the EOFY) sale, I was keen to see how I would go with a different make and model to my old mattress.

It wasn’t even 24 hours after placing the order that I received the dispatch note that my Emma Sleep Luxe Pro Mattress would be arriving the next day.

Organising myself to be in for its arrival, I keenly awaited the new object by doing my research on what I could expect.

When it comes to mattresses, Emma Sleep is a much-lauded, often-awarded range.

Founded in 2013 in Germany, it has amassed 78 awards in ite time, and boasts a cool five million fans globally.

The Luxe Pro Mattress is one of its best-selling buys, but it has recently had a makeover in order to make it even more comfortable.

The new Luxe Pro Mattress focuses on three things: cooling, adaptive comfort and better stability and support.

Graphite-infused foam works to improve the airflow, which in turn keeps you cool through the night.

The mattress also has adaptive comfort technology.

What this means is that it has been designed to automatically adapt to your body and sleeping style for personalised comfort all night long.

Enhanced memory foam (twice as thick as the previous foam) responds to your shape and movement.

While seven targed support zones work to cradle you in its shape — sounds pretty dreamy, right?

When the mattress arrived, I was pleased (and relieved) to find its cylindrical shape not too difficult to drag upstairs.

It was also a relief that the mattress was not difficult to install at all, unfurling in front of my eyes from its packaging once it had been loosened.

With reinforced edge support for improved durability and reduced shrinkage, the piece of home kit comes with a lot of promises.

But how did it get on in real life?

The test

Having had this mattress for little over a week, I can safely say I am already having the sleep of my life.

I kid you not.

This morning, I received a near-perfect Oura Ring sleep score (see above).

I also find myself sleeping more deeply and with fewer disturbances than ever.

One of my favourite features of this mattress so far is the fact that it minimises any partner disturbances through the night.

With a wriggly husband, this particular feature is a godsend.

The cooling technology — even in winter — is also enjoyable, as it’s been shown that it is better for you to fall asleep at one degree cooler than you think you should be for deep, restorative sleep.

I hadn’t been having any back issues with my old mattress, but with the Luxe Pro Mattress by Emma Sleep, I quite literally spring out of bed, feeling well-rested and ready to take on the day.

I also love that the mattress feels soft to the touch, but it also has a surprising amount of firmness to it.

Is it worth it?

While this mattress is expensive at full-price, I reckon it is worth it if you can justify the price tag.

A good mattress is a great investment for both your physical and mental health, and the cost per wear so to speak comes down very fast given we spend a third of our lives asleep.

I have been loving sleeping (and relaxing and reading) on this mattress since I’ve owned it. And my sleep scores tell you the rest.
