Yarrabilba bakery attack: Teen charged after Rainbow Bakery owner Long Kry allegedly struck with rock

A teenage boy has been charged after a bakery owner was allegedly left hospitalised after a violent confrontation outside his business.

The incident unfolded at Rainbow Bakery in Yarrabilba, Logan, on June 6, leaving baker Long Kry with a broken leg and fuelling concerns among local traders about youth crime in the area.

Now, Detectives from the Logan Child Protection and Investigation Unit have charged a 16-year-old Yarrabilba boy following investigations.

Police allege a group of four boys attended the bakery on Yarrabilba Drive about 7.35pm and began causing a disturbance outside the business.

Investigators further allege one of the youths threw a bottle at the bakery, damaging the shopfront.

A short time later, an altercation allegedly occurred between the group and Kry near the entrance.

Police say the 16-year-old threw a rock at him, causing a serious leg injury. Kry suffered a fractured leg and was taken to hospital for treatment.

He previously told 7NEWS a group of teenagers had been taunting him before the confrontation escalated.

Mobile phone footage captured Kry confronting the group and asking them to leave before retreating inside as bottles were allegedly thrown at the bakery.

CCTV later appeared to show one of the youths kick the bakery’s front door, prompting Kry to run outside.

“One of them threw something at me,” he told 7NEWS at the time.

“It hit my leg … and I fell to the ground.”

The father-of-two said the incident had left his family facing an uncertain future as he recovered from his injuries and was unable to work.

Detectives arrested the 16-year-old boy on Thursday nearly a week after the alleged attack.

He was dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act and charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, attempted enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence and wilful damage.

Investigations remain ongoing.
